Learning to use ProTERM is incredibly easy. Sophisticated features include terminal emulation, an integrated text editor, multiple-sessions, powerful macros and extensive protocol support. Ease of use and state of the art features make ProTERM the high-performance communications solution for home, school and business.
Includes a 400+ page manual containing complete details on ProTERM plus extensive information on communications in general. Many illustrations plus a complete index make the manual easy for the novice, casual user and expert. A “Jump Start - Cheat Sheet” gets you started using ProTERM online right away.
Review terminal window text after it has scrolled off or been erased from the screen. Select limits of text saved and discarded for each service. Read, search, print, save, copy and paste text offline.
AutoLearn command learns how to logon to a service by watching you do it. Connect to a service once with AutoLearn enabled, and subsequent logons are automatic.
Terminal windows allow use of seven different font sizes. Standard alphanumeric text is displayed in the font of your choice. Customize the foreground and background colors to suit your preferences.
ProTERM displays both color and special display attributes (bold, underline, reverse, flashing) with emulations that support them (such as VT-102 and ANSI-BBS). Customize individual colors to provide best look on your monitor.
Activity log saves information including date and time of connections, and names of files transferred to/from a service. Select which connections are saved in the activity log.
Easy installation -- just drag the folder to your hard disk.
Chat Mode allows you to enter and edit text in a separate window to avoid confusing text mix-up during real-time chat sessions. Can also be used to enter the "next" command while a service is processing the current one.
Window sizes and positions maintained when windows are opened, moved, resized and closed. Keyboard commands to zoom, stack and cycle through open windows. Window menu provides list of open windows.
Extensive preferences to customize options throughout ProTERM. Select default folders for file transfers and editor documents. Choose which sounds are played in response to different program events.
Print the contents of any window (except floating) including alerts and dialogs. Print a keyboard emulation map for quick-reference.
Modem control window allows monitoring of interaction between ProTERM and your modem. See what commands are sent to the modem and how the modem responds.
Get Info command displays information about files including creator and type, creation and modification date/time, and file size. Change creator and file type as needed or use "Same As" button to match an existing file.

Integrated Text Editor
ºljººrm+8º
The integrated text editor is optimized for use in communications environment. Allows messages to be created offline and then sent after connecting to a service. Performs automatic end-line conversion when opening either PC or UNIX text files.
Text editor document size is limited only by available application memory. No arbitrary 32K size limitations to worry about. Open and edit multiple documents simultaneously.
Editor utilities include find & replace, character count, Macintosh to ASCII symbol conversion, control-character and high-bit stripping, uppercase and lowercase conversion, paragraph reformat, reply format, and smart-quote conversion.
Select text from an editor document or terminal window and append it directly to an existing file. Import text from an existing file into an open editor document. Export text from an editor or terminal window to a new file.
Format Test feature provides a preview of how a text document will appear when uploaded to a service (with all formatting and character conversion performed).
Smart-quote feature can automatically convert straight-quotes to curly-quotes as you type them, or convert a selection of previously typed, captured or downloaded text.
Easily send a complete or selected portion of an editor document to a service. Symbol conversion and text formatting performed "on-the-fly."
Editor displays ASCII control characters in visible form and can optionally show paragraph markers, white-space and tab-stops.

Connect Files
ºljººrm+8º
Connect files maintain information about individual services including: name, phone number, speed, format, duplex, emulation, foreground and background color, transfer options, logon and service macros. Connect to a service by choosing its name from a menu, or by double-clicking the connect file in the Finder.
Phone number substitution allows automatic removal of local area codes from phone numbers. Other calling conventions such as calling cards and 9+local are also supported.
Maintains status of last connect attempt for each service including date, time, result and connect speed (for successful connections).
Connect lists allow selection of a list of services to connect to. Select a connect list and ProTERM sequentially tries to connect to each of the services on the list. Services are removed from the list as connections are made.

File Transfer
ºljººrm+8º
File transfer supports Xmodem, Ymodem, Zmodem and Kermit protocols. MacBinary and Zmodem Resume also supported. Transfer status window keeps you informed of progress.
Auto-Receive option allows hands-off protocol transfers. Tell a service to start sending via Zmodem or Kermit and ProTERM does the rest.
While offline, create a batch file list for use during online file transfer. During subsequent file transfer, simply select the list and all the corresponding files are automatically selected for transfer.
Send text files using prompted or timed sends. Automatic conversion of special Macintosh symbol characters to ASCII equivalents, formatting to specific line width, blank line protection and more.

Terminal Emulation
ºljººrm+8º
Terminal emulations include ADDS Viewpoint, ANSI-BBS, Control Show, DEC VT-52, DEC VT-102, Heath H-19, LSI ADM-3a/5, PSE/A2 and TeleVideo 910. ANSI-BBS supports color with a color monitor.
Keyboard emulation map shows which keys to press on your keyboard to produce keys required by different terminal emulations. Utilizes extra keys available on extended keyboard for emulations which need them.
Select use of DELETE key (send BACK-SPACE or DELETE) and processing of BACKSPACE character (destructive or non-destructive) for each service.
Control Show emulation permits diagnostic display by showing control characters and high-bit characters in a special visible format. Use it to analyze the emulation codes sent by a service.

Powerful Macros
ºljººrm+8º
Powerful DIRC macro programming language allows development of sophisticated macros applications. DIRC uses similar syntax and commands of popular C programming language. Full multi-tasking allows multiple macros to execute simultaneously in one or more sessions.
Over 80 pages of documentation dedicated to the macros as well as example macro files. Example macro files include interacting with a service, assigning keyboard shortcuts to menu commands, and setting your clock with a dialup time server.
Use macros to add custom keyboard shortcuts to menu commands. Redefine existing keyboard shortcuts to suit your preferences. Automate several commands into a single keystroke.
Each service has its own logon macro as well as nine short service macros (each directly accessible from the keyboard). Use the service macros to send commands to a service or to start more complex macro applications.
Create "resident macros" which are always ready for use and can be activated by a keypress or an automatic program event (such as a file transfer).
Includes macro functions to send/receive text to/from a service, insert text into a document, copy text to/read text from the clipboard, play sounds and speak (if Macintosh Speech Manager installed).
Macros support signed 32-bit integers and dynamic string data types. Strings can be assigned, appended, and compared using standard algebraic operators for easy macro development.
